Description

Poetry performance and writing workshop with Owen O’Neill. (8 week workshop)

Owen is a writer and actor of stage and screen. He’s had three poetry books published and has written 16 one-man shows and several plays winning a string of awards including two Fringe Firsts at the Edinburgh Festival. He recently adapted The Shawshank Redemption for the stage. It was produced by Bill Kenwright productions and in 2015/16 it did a major number 1 tour of the UK and Ireland. It will tour again worldwide in 2022.

Owen’s workshop’s are very informal, laid back and good fun. They will mainly cover poetry performance, but will also look at some of your favourite poets who have inspired you and why?

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to workshop your poems, hone and polish and also get feedback on your work, old and new, through discussion from within the group itself.

We will look at abstraction and images in poetry how to avoid clichés and how to think originally.

Rhyme and rhythm will also be a topic for discussion how to read your work aloud and bring it alive from the page.

You will also have the opportunity to read your work in front of an audience at a poetry evening hosted by Owen and organised by the ICC at the end of the course.

The course will last 8 weeks with each class specialising on a new topic.
