Description

We offer Fiddle tuition on Saturdays. There are morning mixed level sessions from 10am and afternoon mixed level sessions from 12 noon - with an opportunity in both sessions for group practice and playing.

A brief outline of the fiddle course content*

For beginners, there will be everything you need to get you started from scratch - includes colour coded charts and video
Learning by ear is taught and encouraged
Sheet music provided in a variety of forms to suit your needs e.g. ABC notation
More experienced players will have the opportunity to play along in a session (of an appropriate level)
Set building sessions are provided for advanced players
History of traditional fiddle music

Lessons take place within the setting of a beautiful library filled with mountains of information about Irish music.

Michael first began learning to play traditional fiddle as a young child at his home in Derry with Dinny McLaughlin. He later discovered a great love for music and completed a HND in traditional music performance in County Donegal around the turn of the millenium. He took the HND course under the guidance of the great Donegal fiddle players, James Byrne and Proinsias Ó Maonaigh. Later, Michael completed a Music degree at University College Cork and was taught by Connie O'Connell whilst there. Michael performs regularly in London with a variety of bands and is a seasoned tutor with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

All Irish Cultural Centre courses and classes must be paid for in advance of the course start date. Anyone found to be attending a course without having paid in full, in advance, will be asked to pay immediately, or it will be necessary for staff to ask the individual to leave.

Refunds of fees can only be made in cases where there is clear evidence of sickness or ill health. A doctor’s certificate will usually be required as evidence before any refund can be made.

The Irish Cultural Centre assumes no responsibility for any injuries or damages to any student or visitor, or his/her property while attending or observing classes within the premises it uses for its classes, save death or injury caused by the negligence of the Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith Ltd, or its employees. Furthermore, the undersigned hereby agrees to release and hold harmless the Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith Ltd, its owners and instructors from any liabilities arising from, or otherwise relating to any events occurring outside the physical premises.

The Irish Cultural Centre wants all students to be on the right course and to enjoy their learning, to this end each student will be allowed one voluntary transfer per term, provided there is space in the new class and the relevant tutor(s) agree to this change.

The undersigned further agrees that this document is a legally binding instrument of his/her obligation to abide by, comply with and enforce if necessary, all of the Irish Cultural Centre’s policies and regulations regarding prompt tuition fee payments, consistent attendance, disciplined behaviour both inside and outside the premises as well as any other stipulations which may be made.

The Irish Cultural Centre reserves the right to cancel a class should there not be a sufficient number of students for it to be viable, or as a result of certain unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, fees will be refunded on a pro-rata basis.

The Irish Cultural Centre reserves the right to revise class schedules should there be reasonable cause, or unforeseen circumstances.
