Description

The ICC is part of an Irish language development project generously supported by An Roinn Ealaíon, Oidreachta, Gnóthaí Réigiúnacha, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta/Department of Arts, Culture. Our language classes are offered this year in collaboration with the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Irish Studies.

Our classes celebrate the beauty of the Irish language and aim to develop appropriate levels of competency. Greater levels of fluency and confidence are achieved though an increased understanding of grammar and expansion of students’ vocabulary.

Whilst we aim to ensure the learning experience is an enjoyable one, progress only happens when students engage with, and make a serious commitment to, the education programme. Regular attendance is compulsory and you are expected to undertake some study at home outside of the weekly classes, e.g. reading and practising spoken exercises. Each year, students can avail of our popular subsidised field trip to Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland involving three days of immersive language learning, cultural activities and a fascinating exploration of local heritage. Limited places are offered on a first-come first-served basis and students are required to make a contribution towards the cost.

The beyond beginners class is targeted to people who did Irish in school in Ireland but have mostly forgotten, or people who have attended an absolute beginners course.

Our first class of each new year is an open session in which tutors will gauge the accurate level of each student and recommend if a switch in class is best. Therefore, when signing up please select a class which best fits your current ability.

This is our Hybrid class which aims to combine online lessons and in person lessons throughout the course of the year.

The initial 5 classes will be completely online (20th September - 18th October).
